Tips for Beginning Bowlers

June 12, 2017 by TrustWorkz

Bowling is one of the most popular leisure sports in the country. Over 70 million people play every year in the US alone! If you want to start bowling but don’t know how, here are five tips for new bowlers.

  • Ask Questions! Don’t be shy or afraid to ask for help. The staff at Mid County Lanes are friendly and helpful, and we’d love to answer your questions. Many seasoned bowlers are excited to share their knowledge and experience as well.
  • Follow Good Bowling Etiquette. Just like any sport, there are rules to make sure that everyone has a good time. Wait your turn, don’t use other people’s bowling balls, and don’t use trash talk. Mocking or taunting other bowlers won’t make you any friends. bowling
  • Select the Right Ball. Don’t pick a ball that’s too heavy! You’ll be holding it for a long time, so make sure your arm won’t get overtired. You’ll also want to make sure that the finger holes aren’t so far apart that you have to stretch your hand too far, and that your fingers slide in and out easily. Again, ask for help if you need it!
  • Don’t Look at the Pins. This can feel counter-intuitive, but looking at the pins won’t help you aim. The arrows and dots on the lane floor will do you better. Try aiming for the second arrow from the right if you’re right-handed (the second arrow from the left for lefties).
  • Don’t Worry About the 7-10 Split. The 7-10 split means that only two pins are left: the one in the back left corner, and the one in the back right corner. This is a very tricky situation, even for professional bowlers. Don’t let it bother you. Pick a pin and try for that one!

Bowling is a great way to have fun. Check out our open bowling hours and come join us!

Kids Go Spare Over Mid County Lanes Parties

April 21, 2017 by Taylor Brantner

Playing sports is it’s own reward, right? Wrong! Kids may have fun playing football, soccer, volleyball, basketball, or other school and community sports, but playing the game takes a lot of hard work. Kids practice regularly, show up on time for games, and hone their skills while encouraging their team members. Remind them why they play the game with a sports team party at Mid County Lanes!

4 Tips for the Ultimate Team Party

  1. boy playing baseballMap a strategy. Like, way ahead. Pre-season parties are a great way to break the ice, help the kids connect, and start fostering team spirit. If you’re planning a post-season team party, pick a handful of dates—let’s call them the “Playoff Party” date and the “All-Star Regular Season” date—and get them approved by the parents. It’s not a team party if everyone is riding the bench (AKA the kids have other plans).
  2. Pick your roster. Is this celebration team members only? Are parents invited? What about siblings? Before booking a venue, get a rough estimate of how many guests will be attending.
  3. Choose a side. Where will you celebrate your wins? Mid County Lanes is a great location for team parties in Middletown. We have food, fun, and plenty more next door.
  4. Make a speech. Motivate your team with an acknowledgement of their struggles and successes. Commendations aren’t all about choosing the season’s MVP. You should also applaud kids who improved, tried a new position, or were all-stars at helping their teammates succeed.

Spring sports are wrapping up. Book your team event at Mid County Lanes.

Bowling for Bucks

January 12, 2017 by Taylor Brantner

Let’s be real, classic fundraisers don’t belong in today’s quick service world. Fundraisers like student carwashes and bake sales don’t stand out from the crowd, and they’re time-consuming to organize. So how can you plan a fundraiser that will draw crowds? Make it fun!

Fundraisers at Mid County Lanes

group of young adults bowlingMid County Bowling partners with community organizations to raise funds (and have nonstop fun in the process). Instead of scrambling to plan a fundraiser that requires parent volunteers, supply run after supply run, and an entire weekend of manual labor, let us take the hard work off your hands. Book a fundraiser at Mid County Lanes and we’ll take care of everything, from fun to food and everything in between. Your guests will have a great time bowling, playing laser tag, and driving bumper cars. When everything’s said and done we’ll give you a percentage of the profits. It’s as easy as that!

Tips for a Better Fundraiser

  1. Celebrate people, not donations. People donate because they want to be a part of something. Plan an event that brings people together to have fun. The funds will follow!
  2. Spread the word. Most of your donations will come from friends and family. If you’re a teacher, send home notes with the kids. If you’re a business, talk about your fundraiser with customers and associates. Whoever you are, don’t forget to advertise on social media!
  3. Set goals (and celebrate them). How much are you hoping to earn? Set a realistic goal for your fundraiser. This may be the same as your overall goal, but it may be a mini goal along the way. When you meet your goal, celebrate! Donors want to share in your successes.

4 Family Resolutions for a Better Year

January 3, 2017 by Taylor Brantner

Did you know that “spend more time with family” is one of the top 5 New Year’s resolutions each year? Carving time out of your busy life is a challenge, but it’s important to spend time with the people who matter most. Mid County Lanes is here to help! Teach your kids the value of New Year’s resolutions and spend more time with your family this year with fun activities like bowling, laser tag, arcade games, and bumper cars.

New Year’s Resolutions for More Family Time

What are some simple ways to make family time a priority?

  1. smiling familyMake a weekly play date. Not only is it easier to stick to the plan when it’s a weekly occurrence, your kids will start to look forward to your weekly ritual.
  2. Play hooky. Just once or twice a year! It will be a fun adventure for your kids, and you’ll get to spend the whole day together. Your kids will remember your family adventures far better than they would have remembered the lessons they’re missing.
  3. Silence your devices. Watching a movie may be fun, but it’s not exactly quality time. Instead, go to a new restaurant or visit Mid County Lanes and Family Fun Galaxy for family adventures in Middletown.
  4. Take pics. You and your kids can flip through your bowling adventures on Facebook later for Family Time, Round 2!

Looking for family fun in Middletown? Mid County Lanes and Family Fun Galaxy are located right next door to each other. Bowl for an hour or two, then head next door for a laser tag adventure or round on the bumper cars.
